The History of Draconica
A brief history of Draconica is detailed below, separated by the various eras.
Life on Draconica is generally considered to have lasted for over 5000 years. The Old Era (OE) details the time that the dragons still existed on the planet - the New Era (NE) is after the last dragon died. Old Era dates are done in reverse order and the New Era is in chronological order.

THE OLD ERA
The Imponderable Age (date unclear - said to be over 5000 years ago)
Scholars of Draconica call this age the Imponderable Age because there is virtually no documents about this age - only speculation. This age is said to be before the time that dragons existed - when nothing existed. There are a few rare tomes, statues and other items on Draconica that are said to pre-date the dragons, but no one can verify this for certain. One particular scroll mentions a race known as the R'hl Lakr (roughly translated as Those Before). What these beings were - if they even existed in the first place - is open to interpretation.
The Creation Age (c. 5000 OE)
Life was breathed into Draconica over 5000 years ago by a powerful race known as the dragons. No one knows how the dragons first came to exist, but some state that they have existed since the dawn of time. Dragons were powerful and very intelligent beings. They possessed the ability to create weapons using their breath. These ranged from fire, ice, etc. Some also possessed psychic abilities or other such similar powers. However, all dragons possessed a skill unlike any other race in the Universe. They had mastered the art of travelling through time and space, allowing them to travel to different places in the world at any time they desired. This was a skill that the dragons were highly secretive about and was one of their closely guarded skills – which remained a mystery right up to their death.
The most powerful of all the dragons was Jeova. From across the Universe, he and his other dragons brought life to the planet, based on the many worlds they visited. And the mortals loved him. Jeova, in turn, loved his followers and showed them kindness and compassion like they were his own children. Even though they fought and killed each other, the world of Draconica was mostly at peace.
Originally Draconica was originally a single continent - but the lands were broken up by the sea serpent Nar-Gar. His rage shattered the lands and made them into various islands.
The Black Hurricane (c.4500 OE)
Around this time, and for reasons known only to Abadon herself, the wife of Jeova went on a rampage across the planet. She attacked the mortals of Draconica, destroying everything in her wake. The dragons tried to stand against her, but even their combined efforts could not halt her attack. A last minute attempt by Jeova to pacify his wife failed - and he used all his available power to create a new dimension, where he trapped Abadon and binded her there.
However, the battle had taken tremendous toll on Jeova - and the amount of energy required to keep Abadon locked away was continuously draining him. So Jeova created for himself another dimension so that he could put himself in an eternal slumber so as to maintain the spell. This is how the Necroworld and Afterworld were created.
But many souls had been lost to Abadon's rampage and their souls drifted endlessly in space. Jeova took pity on them and made it so that every pure soul could live in the Afterworld as a form of paradise. Those that had darkness in their souls would be sent to Abadon for her to endlessly torture, as punishment for their sins.
Why Abadon attacked in the first place is a subject of much discussion and debate on Draconica. However the generally accepted reason, as taught by the followers of Jeova was that Abadon was jealous of the love that Jeova had for the mortals and set out to destroy them - although this is contested by many modern scholars.
The Age of Sorcery (c.4500 OE)
At the dawn of Draconica, the dragons discovered that Draconica possessed a powerful force at the centre of the planet, containing an almost unlimited amount of energy. It is said that the dragons first learned to manipulate this power and use if for themselves. It was called magic. In the aftermath of the Black Hurricane, Kerrigal decided to teach this to the humans (against the better wishes of his companions) so that they could use it in everyday life.
The mortals followed this teaching for over a thousand years, learning to manipulate magic so that it could be used in everyday life. Unfortunately, the mortals had a fairly unlimited knowledge in how magic could be used and this would sometimes lead to bad things. Improper use of magic could create natural disasters, raise the dead or summon hideous monsters that could run wild across the land (this led to the creation of ghuls).
The Age of Science (c.3000 OE)
After seeing the damage that magic could do, and fearing that the mortals were toying with powers that they did not understand, Dronor decided to come up with an alternative solution. He taught the people of the world that they could use the natural materials in the world as their tools. Over the course of many years, Dronor taught them they can could use steel, stone and wood to build houses or castles. He taught them that they could use the natural elements of the forest to create medicine. They even learned how to fashion armour and weapons from these materials.
This new teaching helped Draconica in many ways. Firstly, it removed the mortals dependency on a potentially dangerous force that could rarely be controlled. Secondly, it helped them to craft cities and cultures so that they would not have to sleep in the open as they did before. And so it was that the people embraced the ways of science.
But Kerrigal was not happy with these new teachings and a war started between him and Dronor. It ended with Kerrigal using all his powers to create a powerful malestrom to destroy Dronor - but this backfired and it destroyed him instead. This is how The Vortex was created.
Since learning about science, the people of Draconica have learned to build cities and castles, but also armour and weapons. Later on in life they discovered materials that allowed them to make gunpowder, letting them build rifles and cannons. It would seem that even without magic, the mortals still found ways to craft dangerous weapons - much to Dronor's disappointment.
But science also allowed people to create medicine from the natural materials and use raw materials to create art and decorations - so it was not all bad news. Science has been the leading belief on the planet every since.
Although magic has been long abandoned by many people, some still clung to the old ways. However, some found a way of mixing magic and science together to create a new type of knowledge called alchemy. This has allowed many technological advances on the planet.
Technically this age has never truly ended - as people still practice modern techniques these days.
